Pianist's Responsibilities
- With ample notice from the soloist, you should be available
to play in your soloist's lessons, studio, and guest masterclasses, recitals,
and juries.
- Before committing yourself to an accompanying situation:
- Look over the music, read it at the piano or listen to a recording of the piece(s).
- Considering your your level of technique, sightreading skills, speed of learning, and the time available, is it within your capabilities.
- Only accept commitments you are sure you can satisfy.
- If you are unavoidable unable to fulfill your commitment, you are
responsible for finding an adequate replacement and to inform all involved parties of the change.
- Protect your professional reputation by being on time and adequately prepared for all rehearsals,
lessons, and public performances.
- Refuse to allow your soloist talk you into doing something in public that
may appear to jeopardize your professional standing.
- Immediately enter all schedule changes in your calendar. Managing several schedules is difficult!
- You may find it easier to compile a notebook of copied vocal music from each soloist, rather than
tote around numerous anthologies.
- Get word by word translations of songs and arias from your soloist or through your own research.
